Falling in line with the other Maritime provinces, Prince Edward Island has introduced cannabis regulations ahead of recreational legalization in July.
PEI has set its legal consumption age at 19 and adults will be allowed to possess 30 grams of dried marijuana which aligns with federal legislation.
Public health and safety campaigns will ramp up as drug-impaired driving laws are strengthened.
In addition to online sales, four stand-alone cannabis retail stores will open across the Island.
Further policies such as personal cultivation and ticketing offences will be unveiled in the weeks to come.
PEI has also announced cannabis supply agreements with Moncton-based Organigram, Ontario’s Canopy Growth and a Charlottetown-based family-run company called Canada’s Island Garden.
