Could a greener form of energy be an opportunity to help lure more businesses to the Sussex Region?
The Town and the local chamber of commerce hope so as the community does a feasibility study on the possible extraction of geothermal energy from the now-closed potash mine.
Fundy Royal MP Alaina Lockhart says greenhouses or manufacturing businesses are among those who may see the potential.
“The next step for them (community) is to start the feasibility study. Obviously they want to make sure they have a sound plan to attract any businesses to the area that are looking for an alternative fuel source,” she notes.
Lockhart says the joint federal-provincial funding of more than $160,000 falls in line with Ottawa’s plan to examine greener energy sources.
Part of the funding will also be used for developing an online platform to identify all community assets in the Sussex Region.
