Lots of moving experiences for students and adults from Charlotte county on the Beaches and Battlefield’s tour of Europe in April.
A St. George history teacher put it together and a key event was attending the ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

Anthony Carey says it was humbling to walk memorials like Vimy and many others.
He adds in Belgium and France if felt like if you threw a stone and it would land in a graveyard adding wherever you were there would be two or three in your site all the time.
Carey says it really underscores the role that Canada played in the First World War adding it’s one that maybe we don’t do a good enough job talking about.
One of the student said the trip really changed my view of not just the World Wars, but all wars adding to everyone that helped, thank you for organizing this.
Another student said you are exposed in school to Canadian history but having left Canada for this tour I have become better connected with Canada than ever before.
