Premier Brian Gallant has announced the former official languages commissioner will return to the role on an interim basis.
Michel Carrier served as commissioner from 2003 to 2013 and will assume the position again on July 23rd.
In the meantime, an independent process will select a replacement for Katherine d’Entremont who retires next month.
In her final report, d’Entremont called on the province to create a single department or secretariat to help ensure compliance of the Official Languages Act.
Currently, she added that civil servants responsible for official languages are spread over several departments.
