A growing Saint John festival is getting support from the federal government.
International Culturefest, organized by the Saint John Newcomers Centre, is receiving $61,000.
The announcement was made during this year’s festival, which took place over the weekend.
“The festival continues to be a catalyst for social unity and economic vitality in Saint John,” Mohamed Bagha, the centre’s managing director, said in a news release.
“Culturefest brings people together, fosters understanding, and strengthens our community’s social fabric, while also creating opportunities for local artists, performers, vendors and small businesses.”
First launched in 2018, the festival is meant to promote the city’s growing diversity and create a space where everyone feels welcome.
Organizers are also planning a smaller version of the festival in the Kennebecasis Valley.
Culture Fest in the Valley is scheduled to take place in September 2025 and 2026.
