RCMP say they have made four separate drug-related seizures as they try to disrupt the distribution of illicit substances in Charlotte County.
Police said an all-terrain vehicle fled from a St. Stephen RCMP officer during an attempted traffic stop at around 12:25 a.m. on Aug. 28.
A 42-year-old man was arrested shortly after. Officers also seized 26 grams of suspected fentanyl, a BB handgun and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
That same day, Grand Manan RCMP arrested a 57-year-old man on an outstanding warrant and seized suspected cocaine.
The man was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date, according to the RCMP.
At around 12:20 a.m. on Aug. 29, officers stopped a vehicle on Prince William Street in St. Stephen.
They arrested a 46-year-old woman and seized 22 grams of suspected crystal meth, as well as suspected cocaine and magic mushrooms, along with drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Later the same day, officers stopped another vehicle unrelated to the first and seized 20 grams of suspected cocaine. No arrests have been made in that case.
“Fentanyl remains one of the most dangerous substances affecting communities across Canada. “This substance is not only highly potent but also increasingly linked to fatal overdoses,” RCMP Sgt. Pierre Ladouceur said in a news release on Thursday.
“These recent seizures are a direct result of the tireless work that our members do daily to disrupt the flow of illicit drugs into our communities. Every gram of fentanyl we intercept is a potential life saved.”
