New Brunswick retailers have been given the go-ahead to charge more for gasoline.
The provincial regulator has approved a 3.2-cent-per-litre increase to the maximum retail margin and delivery cost.
The change will take effect during the weekly adjustment by the New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board on Friday.
“It is reasonable to conclude that without an increase to the retail margin to reflect the increase in expenses, continuity of supply could be jeopardized,” the board wrote in its ruling, dated Sept. 12.
Maximum retail margins and delivery costs currently add up to 12.21 cents per litre plus HST. As of Friday, it will be 15.41 cents per litre plus HST.
At the same time, the board has approved a 9.03-cent-per-litre increase to the maximum retail margin for heating oil prices.
It will increase from the current 27.21 cents per litre plus HST to 36.24 cents per litre plus HST.
Maximum retail margins and delivery costs have not changed in nearly three years.
