The Mayors of Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton are worried they’ll be saddled dealing with the financial ramifications of the property tax freeze next year.
The Tri-Cities Partnership is calling for stronger dialogue and greater clarity from the province amid the fear the freeze may extend beyond next year.
The three mayors point out there will be difficult budget decisions next year and they have to grapple with rising costs like public safety wages awarded through arbitration.
The province says assistance will be decided on a case by case basis with 48 of the more than 100 municipalities being helped. The mayors would like all municipalities to get assistance.
