St. Joseph’s Hospital has new technology to help caregivers and patients thanks to the support of generous donors and the community.
The Urgent Care Department is home to five new Integrated Wall Systems which provide improved digital blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation and heart rate recording equipment.
Marcie Crawford, the nurse manager for urgent care, said the new units are invaluable.
“The ease of use, the quick results and comfort for our patients has improved daily care for the patients who seek treatment in Urgent Care,” said Crawford in a news release.
The department gets more than 30,000 visits a year and 60 per cent of those patients do not have a family doctor.
The St. Joe’s eye clinic also has a new retinal laser for treating glaucoma and other eye diseases.
Ophthalmologist Dr. Jeff Steeves said it allows them to improve on what they were already doing while expanding into more delicate areas of the retina.
“This is a great tool for the patients of New Brunswick who are suffering from blinding eye condition from retinal diseases such as diabetes and macular degeneration,” said Steeves.
The clinic gets more than 8,500 visits a year.
