More than 9,000 nurses across New Brunswick have voted in favour of a new agreement.
The RNs, LPNs and nurse practitioners accepted the tentative deal with a 68 per cent “yes” vote.
They work in hospitals, public and community health programs, Ambulance N-B and extra-mural programs.
“This is a positive step forward in improving the work and personal lives of nurses,” Paula Doucet, president of the New Brunswick Nurses Union, said in a news release.
“However, we know that the issues they face won’t disappear overnight. The work continues to address their priorities.”
Officials said the new deal puts New Brunswick’s Part III nurses on par with Nova Scotia’s nurses.
Finance Minister René Legacy said they are pleased that nurses have voted to accept the deal.
“We have been listening to nurses when they tell us what’s important to them, and the negotiators on both sides worked diligently to get the deal done on an agreement that acknowledges the importance of these critical and valued employees,” Legacy said in the release.
Details of the new agreement will be shared once it has been signed by both sides, according to the province.
