New Brunswick home sales have dipped below the 1,000 mark for the first time in months.
Figures from the New Brunswick Real Estate Board show 839 homes were sold in August.
That was down seven per cent from last year and 12 per cent lower than the 10-year average.
While sales were down in most areas of the province, the Saint John region saw a 13.7 per cent increase.
Greater Moncton saw the biggest drop at 16.5 per cent, followed by the Fredericton region at 10.6 per cent and the Northern and Valley Regions at 6.4 per cent.
“New listings pulled back slightly from July but were still not too far off what we would expect for this time of year,” Justin Morehouse, chair of the New Brunswick Real Estate Board, said in a news release.
“Overall inventory remained stable compared to the past few months and was a touch higher than a year ago.”
There were 1,212 new residential listings in August, which was more than seven per cent lower than the long-term average.
Active residential listings numbered 3,691 units at the end of the month, up six per cent year over year but 23 per cent below the 10-year average.
The benchmark price for single-family homes was $329,400, a gain of 6.4 per cent compared to the same time last year.
“Market conditions were little changed in August and continue to favour sellers, with no indication that will change any time soon,” said Morehouse.
