Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna argues carbon pricing will not hurt the economy. She believes the effect will be quite the opposite by creating more innovation. She claims pollution hurts the economy by taking a toll on health.
Under the federal government’s plan, carbon pricing will begin at $10 a ton of carbon dioxide next year. That will go up to $50 a ton in 2022.
New Brunswick will be putting a price on carbon beginning in 2018. What that is hasn’t been spelled out yet. Whether the province will adopt the federal plan which is very much like Alberta’s remains to be seen.
